1. Acceptance
These Terms apply between BuildPath NZ and each user. By using the website, creating an account, opening the Workspace, importing information or exporting records, you accept these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Disclaimer.
2. Free public resource and free account
Public BuildPath learning material remains free to browse without registration. A free account is required for project-specific Workspace records and cross-device cloud sync. BuildPath does not offer a paid subscription, pricing plan or checkout through this implementation.
3. Educational and organisational purpose
BuildPath is an educational and project-organisation resource. It is not legal, planning, engineering, architectural, quantity surveying, valuation, council, tax, accounting, financial, insurance, employment, building-consent, or health-and-safety advice. No checklist, calculation, extracted finding, status or record is an approval or compliance guarantee.
4. Project information and professional verification
Users remain responsible for inputs, decisions, accuracy, authority, current revisions, linked files and project-specific verification. Current legislation, council records, consented drawings, specifications, contracts, consultant instructions, manufacturer information and competent professional advice override generic material.
5. Account security
Keep sign-in credentials and devices secure, use an email address you control, sign out of shared devices, and promptly remove offline data where appropriate. Users are responsible for activity through their account unless they have notified BuildPath of suspected unauthorised use.
6. Cloud storage, offline cache and availability
Structured records use Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. Trusted-device browser cache and BuildPath IndexedDB may keep local copies. Sync can be delayed or unavailable because of connection loss, browser limitations, maintenance, service interruption or free-tier quota limits. Cached data may not be the latest cloud version. BuildPath does not promise uninterrupted service or permanent retention.
7. Backups
Cloud sync is not a replacement for independent backups or the authoritative project filing system. Users should export project and account JSON after material changes and keep issued documents, contracts, approvals, certificates and evidence in appropriate controlled systems.
8. WhatsApp and imported content
Users must have permission and a lawful purpose for importing conversations or information about other people. They must review extracted findings before acceptance, limit personal information, and verify every resulting project record. Raw WhatsApp ZIP files and large media are not intended for Firestore storage.
9. Documents and external links
BuildPath stores document metadata and links rather than project-file bytes. Access, retention, permissions and security for OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, council, consultant or other external systems remain governed by those services and the project's own controls.
10. Prohibited conduct
Do not use BuildPath unlawfully or unsafely, access another user's data, attempt to bypass security rules, overload or interfere with the service, upload content without authority, misrepresent BuildPath material as official approval, or republish a substantial copy as a competing product without permission.
11. Account export and deletion
Users can export account data and request deletion through Account Settings. Deletion is irreversible after completion. Some hosting, security, correspondence or legally required records may be retained where reasonably necessary and lawful.
12. Liability and New Zealand law
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BuildPath is not responsible for loss caused by inaccurate inputs, incomplete or outdated information, unavailable services, sync delays, browser or third-party storage failure, unauthorised account use, or reliance without appropriate verification. Nothing limits a right or obligation that New Zealand law does not permit to be limited.
13. Changes and contact
Features and these Terms may change as the free service and official requirements evolve. Material account or privacy changes should be reflected in the published policies. Questions can be sent through the contact page.
